CHRISTMAS STORMS AND SUNSHINE
This story is written in third person, which means that the author is omniscent and has nothing to do with the roles inside the story telling, it is just an outside perspective.
The story has the following inportant details such as; first Mr Hudgson and Mr Jenkins were both the head of two politically opposite newspapers, the examinaer and the flying post in that order, they lived in the same apartment building and their wives hated eachother, could not stand being around eachother.Constantly they expressed how jelaous they felt, both wishing what the other had.
On the day before christmas the Jenkins cat ate Mr Hudgson dinner. After that the Hudgson baby became ill and Mrs Jenkins came to save the day and help Mrs Hudgson to treat her son's health.
At christmas eve the Hudgson decided to bring homemade sausages to their neighboors dinner as a thank you present for saving their child, finally they left their diferences apart and had a merry christmas.
In this story i could could highlight some positive and negative aspects expressed as values and antivalues we could say so.
The values that i found were kindness and forgiveness. The antivalues that i found were envy and jealousy.
Kindness because trough all the satory even before they turned their differences apart they showed acts of kidness to eachother despite their current situation.Forgiveness because at the end of the story we can see how great it is to life live without resentment and having greater relationships with the people around us especially in a time like Christmas that is all about love and rebirth.
Envy and jealousy go hand by hand because there is so many examples of how much they complained about what the other one deserved, which i believe is such a childish behavior, very demanding and dangerous to our mental health instead of focusing on our own blessings.
From what I can infer the author's purpose in this reading in particular was to leave a message of compassion and forgiveness to the people around us, perfectly using Christmas time as an excelent resource to portrair how important is to give them a second chance. Also a message of respect towards our differences, such as the color of our skin, our beliefs, even political partys. Both of these messages eventhough were writren so long ago, apply perfectly to today's society as well.
That is why i think this story applies to commitment and citizenship as values so effortless, because to treat one and other respectfully and giving without asking for something in return is key to contribute succesfully in society; be a great citizen requieres comitment and sacrife, to look for one and other and their necesities, to help and care for our communities and keep looking foward to improve not only as a group of people with common interests but improve as an individual, learn from outside experiences and our own, listen more and speak out for those who might not be able to stand up for themselves, being commited to stay truthfull and honestly represent people who need it. At the same time for a citizenship to work out we new to embrace our diversity and diferences instead of point out those who are different.Nowdays societies are made of immigrants and linked more easily to our roots and other cultures beacuse of the internet and social media, this tool should be used to spread awarness and kindness instead it has increased hate and bullying. At time like these is when values as citizenship and commiment should be more present in humanity to be able to stand together not against each other.
